I have been a wife and mother for over twenty years. Now I am becoming my husband's lover, too.
We owe it all to my fellow bloggers who gave me the courage to come out to my husband as a spanko.
I do feel like this is a New Beginning for us.

Changes

Our weather is was perfect yesterday. Nick and I went out for supper and ate outside. So pretty! We haven’t been able to do that in a long time. Before we know it it’s going to be too hot so we steal the chance when we can.

Hold a good thought for me this afternoon. Mollie is getting her hair cut. Sigh… I love it long but I did make a promise to myself a long time ago when I was in high school ~ don’t freak out over how your kids want to wear their hair!

I was in high school when boys first began wearing their hair long and everyone over 40 seemed to act like these kids were on the same level as rapist and baby killers. Boys were thrown off of sports teams and even told not to come home if they didn’t get their hair cut. I thought the reaction of the adults at the time was asinine, I still feel that way. I gave my kids just three rules about hair.

• Keep it clean
• I have to see both eyes
• We will discuss it before you change the color

LJ no longer has control over his hair. Once he is casts in a play he can’t touch it. They will cut and color it the way they want it.

Mollie is a lovely blonde. Okay lets be truthful here. She is gorgeous! She is planning to cut off about 10 inches for locks of love and have it highlighted. She is thinking of a style something like this. But she could shave her head and still be beautiful so I'm not worried. Well I am a little worried I know it will make her look different – older. Not something I want to see. Like I said before, sigh…

  1. PK, I loved that time, there were indeed a lot of asinine people around at the time, but there always are.
As long as I can see both eyes and we will discus colour, you rock girl, your kids must love you, I know I do.
    Love and warm hugs,
    Paul.

  2. Mthc had really long fluffy beautiful hair way back then. The summer before she had Scott it was so hot she cut it off. It is still beautiful and so is she. Those were the days and I will never forget.

Ditto on what Paul said. You are loved Pk by alot of people out here keep on rocking!

    *hugs and grins*

  4. Such a good Mom! How hard it is to let them make their own choices. But how wise and smart you are to know not to sweat the small stuff. Your children are so very lucky to have a such a wonderful and truly loving Mom!

  5. PK,
I got my BA degree in acting and hated not having control over my hair. But then again, I am the queen of the Scare-Do. I have done every color in the universe and just two years ago, at 46, got a Mohawk. Even if I was a little fat for it, it was fun. Then I decided I wanted to look cute (not like a space alien) so now my hair is more normalish, but still could not be considered normal. And I couldn't resist the odd fire engine red streak in the front...

My advice is let your kids do whatever they want to their hair when they are young so they don't dye their hair blue at twenty-five and can't get a job. I had some issues with employers. My parents were pretty tight, which caused me to go crazy during my twenties and yes, it did affect my career.

But that's me. You need to do what's right for you.

ALSO, I live in the SF Bay Area region of California which is very progressive and liberal. Hair dos and don'ts are regional. Pink hair here means nothing. But in another state, it could mean getting beat up. So that is another consideration.

    Hugs,
    Michelle

  6. Well,i don't have girls but i have two boys that have dyed their hair red.blonde.. a mixture of both...and shaved it all off!
In the end it doesn't hurt anything when they're young.

I've been a long-time reader, and I don't often comment, but I just wanted to tell you I love reading about your relationship with your children. I don't have kids, but I have a great relationship with my mother, and I did even throughout the difficult time that was high school. It was precisely because she let the little things (like my hair and wardrobe choices - within reason) go and didn't restrict things that are ultimately not a big deal that I was able to stay so close to her. Now that I'm an adult, she's one of my best friends, and I'm sure your kids do and will think of you that way.

  8. Pk, we do have to pick our battles don't we? Joe has always told the boys that looking normal will never go out of style. We then just held our breath and hoped for the best. Luckily, we didn't have any issues and now the youngest is about to get his head shave military style.
    Big hugs,
    Lori

  9. This particular style is hot now. I think it is going to be beyond beautiful on her. And she is doing something wonderful for someone else.

I have had long hair and cut if all off about 6 times in my life. You know the old saying? "It'll grow back?" It's true!

Oh and my son did shave his head....and you are right, he was still gorgeous. But he has hair not and I love it!

Send me a pic! I'm still waiting on a dress pic!

    Love you
    Theresa

  10. What a wonderful thing she is doing by cutting her hair for locks of love. You should be very, very proud of her! (I KNOW, you are!)

She is going to be beautiful! And she's doing a beautiful thing.

BTW, my last comment should have read... I glad I'm not the only one who can have a conversation with her daughter and not say a word! MAN, that girl can TALK!

    Teen daughters...aren't they the best???

    HUGS!

  11. Paul,
It was a crazy time in history. I can't imagine who would throw out their own kid over HAIR??

    David,
You are a really sweet man.

    Carye,
That's what you get for have older friends. Our kids are moving toward adulthood by leaps and bounds. And yes it is scary!

    Sally,
I don't know if they are good kids because I let them have some freedom or whether I let them have their freedom because they are good kids.

    Michelle,
I want them to make their own decisions and so far since I let them they are both pretty good about talking to me about things. They know I am not going to tell them what they have to do. (Well sometimes) But I really appreciate them listening to my point of view.

Neither have mentioned having their hair an unusual color (Mollies high school doesn't allow it). Now at 12 my beautiful blonde wanted to dye her hair dark brown and I really did not like the idea. I kinda just kept dragging my feet and holding back until she finally changed her mind (came to her senses!).

    Mthc,
LJ once shaved his head. It looked HORRIBLE I was expecting people to ask him when his next treatment was. I told him he was always beautiful to me but we later agreed it was not his best look.

    Bella,
Thanks for your comment. I was very close to my mother too. We did so much together. Now Mollie and I do things together. My children are so special to me.

    Lori,
I guess raising children means you spend a lot of time holding your breath.

    Theresa,
Having seen your son I can say long hair or short he is something else!

    Grace,
Yes they are the best but honestly the talking never ends! When there is so much talking I go in and out of listening and I am always scared I will miss something important.

  12. Changes are always difficult...even little changes :-)
And locks for love is a great cause. Many of my students have done that. My littlest one doesn't have enough hair on her head yet to think of cutting it ... :-)
