I have been a wife and mother for over twenty years. Now I am becoming my husband's lover, too.
We owe it all to my fellow bloggers who gave me the courage to come out to my husband as a spanko.
I do feel like this is a New Beginning for us.

We survived without damage, but...

The storm has passed and here where I live everything is fine. But that’s not the case for those down east. And sadly the worst is probably yet to come as every drop of rain that fell in NC will eventually make its way to the ocean. The flooding there will not be over for a while.

New Bern has been on the news so I’m sure some of you have seen pictures. That’s where my two elderly cousins have their homes. In the picture below you see a small retaining wall to the right – that’s one cousin’s lawn.

I know she’s safe. Her son’s came and got her. The other cousin, ninety-one, has a small apartment in town. She refused to leave with them when they tried to get her to – which sounds just like her. I know she has no electricity or running water from news reports. She has four children, but none live in state. We’re over three hundred miles away and no one can get in anyway. I can only pray she’s safe and that her sheer, ingrained, stubbornness hasn’t killed her.

Another cousin lives in Washington, NC about seventeen miles from New Bern. That little town was where my mother grew up and I love it dearly. That’s the sitting for all my Cassie books, Cal and Jenny too. My cousin’s home is on the river and her deck and lawn is what I see in my mind as I write about Cassie and Tom’s lovely home. I know they’re safe. She and her new husband loaded the dogs into the RV and headed to family in Kansas. I hope ‘Cassie’s’ house is not too badly damaged, but I’m glad to know they’re safe.

Just for those Cassie fans who know the books well. Here is the walkway by the river where Tom and Cassie were walking when they ran into Cooter.

Last week my sister and I had made plans to go to New Bern this week to visit our cousins.  Not sure when that trip will take place.

  12. Thank you everyone for keeping us in your thoughts! We are completely fine but the coast will be a mess for a long, long time. Cousins granddaughter says, "I think she's okay." Doesn't tell me much. But we'll stay on it.
