As I write this on Saturday I’m anticipating my New Year’s Eve with great anticipation. While some of you were out there drinking and dancing and partying, I have no doubt I was in my recliner wearing my thick socks and petting a cat on my lap and sipping hot chocolate while watching Breakfast at Tiffany’s (I taped it the other night.)
I bet I was eating cookies too. I’ll flip it over to watch the ball drop with Ryan Seacrest but since I have barely heard the name of anyone performing, I probably didn’t watch much. Anyway, that’s the plan and I hope each of you had the New Year’s Celebration of your dreams.
But on to the big news. Last Thursday I was here minding my own business when Mollie texted me. She said: “I’m up in the mountains with D. Maybe on the way back we could meet at the grocery store. I could get the dog and you could say a quick Hi.”
Not wanting to scare her away I answered with: “Sounds good.”
Then I took a shower and tried to decide what to wear. By meeting in the grocery store parking lot assured it wasn’t going to be a long meeting, but I was certainly willing to take what I could get.
When we met Mollie gave a quick introduction, “Mom, this is D.” I still don’t know the man’s last name. He was a very nice-looking man – not too tall but nice red hair. He and I shook hands and talked for a minute about their trip to the mountains. I had baked some cookies after she text, so I gave them to Mollie and happily relinquished the dog. I really don’t know much of what we said to one another, but I do remember two things. As we said goodbye, he gave me a quick hug and then he opened Mollie’s door for her and off they went.
Later that evening I told Mollie I had like that he opened the door for her. She told me that she found it mildly annoying. She said, “I’m perfectly capable of opening my own car door.” Without lecturing I pointed out that I was sure he was fully aware of that, but that his mother had probably taught him that it was a way of being polite to a woman you liked. And that in today’s world politeness in any form was to be embraced with a smile. She agreed.
Now I’ve finally met him – in Mollie’s world that’s practically an engagement (though I’d never say that to her.) I wish she would invite him around when LJ and Collin come later this month, but I don’t expect it to happen.
I hope everyone is starting off the new year happy and content.

A Happy New Year to you and yours too! I don't think she'll introduce on this trip but I hope he's around long enough to meet them someday.
