I think I got myself in a little trouble. I wasn’t trying to
– I’ve really been my usual perfect self. Better you might say. I’ve been
getting my steps in on the fitbit. I’ve been getting my laundry put away in a
timely manner. I’ve even been doing more cleaning than usual, so I should be
golden. But I forgot…
I’ve had a lot on my mind this past week Mollie and three
friends headed off on their cruise. Four children, no grown-ups at all! Driving
five hundred miles to Florida, dealing with parking, transports, passports,
luggage, boarding passes. And they seemingly did it with ease and aplomb.
They’re back now and I give in – she is a full, competent grown up adult.
However, I did worry about them while they were gone. That’s why I forgot…
You see Nick had a birthday last week. Now I didn’t forget
his birthday. I took him out to eat with our friends last weekend and since I’m
not the best baker I went to his favorite bakery on his birthday for a big
slice of coconut cake (I don’t like coconut so he knew it was just for him) and
I had a card waiting for him. So what did I forget? The spanking.
I told Nick years ago that when there is a birthday in the
house one of us is getting spanked.
It years past I would remind him and graciously volunteer to take said spanking.
Thursday evening before he left on his golf trip he came in the living room
with the strap for a ‘just because’ spanking and during that reminded me of the
tradition. He didn’t buy the forgetfulness and he didn’t like my second reason.
I told him that since he was getting to be an old man, into his sixties now,
well that’s a consideration. That reasoning was definitely not sitting well
with him.
Out Thursday encounter ended on a very pleasant note – and
extra little birthday gift for him you might say, but he told me the birthday
spanking would happen after he gets back. Because of the crack about his age, I
don’t feel like it’s going to be that fun light spanking. Then again maybe
he’ll forget, he is getting awfully old.
Oh no not the birthday spank. Not good when the years are getting higher. Happy birthday Nick. Hope he has forgotten when he arrives home from his golfing weekend or at least takes it easy on you.
ReplyDeleteGood luck!
He doesn't usually read here, but he does occasionally. Hope his weekend was really good and he's in a good mood.
DeleteIt's such a shock when you realize your child is a competent young adult isn't it. Happy to hear the girls all had a snafu-free trip.
ReplyDeleteHappy belated birthday to Nick. You are too funny PK...getting old is he? Hmmm...hope he doesn't remember the old remark when he returns and gives you his birthday spanking. ;)
Hugs and blessings...Cat
Yes really feeling your kids are grown-ups is strange. Now I wish Nick wasn't quite so grown up!
DeleteOh I hope Nick had a lovely birthday! That's a lot of spanks, sometimes I wish we were a bit younger, lol
ReplyDeletelove Jan,xx
I don't mind getting older - but as the swat count mounts you start to worry.
DeleteGlad Mollie and her friends had a trouble free trip.
ReplyDeleteWhat? you forgot Nick's birthday spanking? shame on you:) Wishing Nick a very Happy Belated Birthday, Your comment about his age cracked me up. Those birthday spankings do get harder and harder to take don't they lol. Fingers crossed he will forget :)
Hugs
Roz
Nick often uses a different implement for each decade and they seem to get worse and worse.
DeleteGlad Mollie and her friends had a wonderful trip. Like Roz, I'm wishing Nick a belated happy birthday and I hope he enjoyed his golfing weekend.
ReplyDeleteA birthday spanking huh, well it's something to look forward to. Ray's birthday is tomorrow, one can only hope but I'm not holding my breath.
Just tell Ray first thing in the morning that ONE of you is getting a birthday spanking before the day is over.
DeleteIt is just a Mom Thing. You never stop worrying. And once in a great while I still call my 2 grown up sons/men "Noodle" or "Bean." As long as no one else is around, they will still smile.
ReplyDeleteThe title of this post is "I just forgot." I am thinking that Nick will not forget, especially with that wise-ass comment. I look forward to the conclusion of this little story.

You're probably right, but knowing Mollie will be around could delay it indefinitely.
DeleteGlad Mollie and friends had a wonderful time. They certainly grow up quickly.
ReplyDeleteDon't think Nick will forget this one. Happy Belated birthday to Nick.
Love,
Ronnie
xx
They do grow up quick! As for Nick's memory - you're probably right.
DeleteHappy Mollie and friends had a great time. You know I worry about my kids too.... So I get it!
ReplyDeleteHappy b-lated to Nick! I know you'll get spanked. Hope the large number doesn't make it hard to handle! Lol... No matter it will be good in the end!
I hope it's okay - I'd hate to have to look for a younger man.
DeleteHappy Birthday, Nick!!!
ReplyDeleteYou know,PK, that got Dan's birthday spanking and it hurt so much I had to have it divided up into six days of spanks. Or was that mine? I forget. Never mind, this is just a little warning..... Ha!
Hugs
Ami
Six days? That's a long spanking! Wonder how he'll do things.
