I have been a wife and mother for over twenty years. Now I am becoming my husband's lover, too.
We owe it all to my fellow bloggers who gave me the courage to come out to my husband as a spanko.
I do feel like this is a New Beginning for us.

Many emotions in one week

Wow! I’m not sure this will make any sense. I am writing without really knowing where I’m going. All is well, but for an old writer who is on the edge of being a recluse/hermit this has been a stressful time.

Mollie came when her school got out, adding her cat and
puppy into the mix of our two cats. The cat is no problem at all, the puppy is a puppy. That requires more attention than the cats but she is sweet and loveable and I like it when she visits.

Christmas Day was fairly quiet, as we waited for the boys to come in a few days later. But my sister and BIL came for dinner and I did way more cooking than I usually attempted. I made my first turkey. I made it in the crock pot, so I guess some would say that’s cheating. But it was tender and juicy and I thought it was great. I also made my mother’s apple pie. I loved my mom’s apple pie but after she died I was hesitant to try it myself. I waited fifteen years – but it came out perfect and my sister and Nick both told me I nailed it! I have to agree with them, it was great.

LJ and Collin arrived and we had our Christmas last Sunday. With just the five of us I love the way we open our gifts. We go around the circle and open one gift at the time. I know people spent lots of time thinking of a good gift and they spend money and time wrapping – I want to see each one opened. At Nick’s there are over twenty of us and we can’t do this, but I never see what anyone gets and never know what they think of what I got them. I cooked – again! Which means I’m done with cooking until next Christmas.

It’s fun having everyone here, but with all nine of us – five people and four animals – in our small house it seemed very full. Then in the midst of all the visiting I realized our old cat had taken a sharp decline, very sharp. He’s sixteen and hadn’t been in the best of health. He was originally LJ’s cat and I was happy that they had gotten to see each other one more time. I put him to sleep early on the morning of the 31stand his passing has left a big hole in our family. Mollie use to bundle him up, put a baby cap on him and tuck him into her stroller for a trip to the neighbor’s. He accepted her playing as well as all the animals we’ve had come and go over the years with friendly disinterest. But I will miss his companionship the most in my writing room each morning. Nick and I are now down to one pet. There have only been a few times in our thirty-five years together when that was true.

You can see I’ve had a happy, chaotic week with the sadness of losing a friend thrown in there. Mostly I’ve been very happy to have all my kids here. That’s always the best. Not having the time to do any writing does throw me off, however. And to top it all off we had no internet for two days – horror! But I survived and I found a few minutes to unwind and write this post. Thanks, I feel more relaxed already.

And I won’t be forgetting to write Nick this week!

  1. PK, So good to hear you had some wonderful time with your family, especially the kids! Sorry about your little cat though as that is so very hard. Making a turkey in any fashion is a success in my book. I laughed out loud when you said you're not cooking until next Christmas! hahaha Love it! Sweet post! Welcome back to the internet. Hugs! 1. It was an over all good time. I don't like cooking and the idea of everything coming out hot at the same time is just ridiculous!

  2. Hi PK, I'm so glad you had wonderful Christmas celebrations with the family and that there were no hitches with the boys travel this year.

I'm so very sorry to hear about your cat. They are such a part of us and having to say goodbye is hard. I know you will have wonderful memories to cherish.

  3. PK, I knew I felt the earth shake this holiday season. Now I know it was you cooking and baking!!! I am sure the family appreciated every bite.

You have given us a lovely picture of your family together for Christmas. Glad you are having so much fun. Sorry to hear about one of your cats. It is never easy. We had a dog put down last summer, and it was very hard for Sam. Yesterday I put on a sweater I hadn't worn yet this winter and found some short white hairs. I knew they belonged to that pet. Just a little tear.

    Hugs and Love From Ella

I'm sorry PK. They say that tragedy and joy often run in parallel tracks. Losing a beloved family pet is such an acute loss, but I'm so glad you had your family there with you. And I have to say, the pie looks delicious. :) -- shell

    1. I guess it all runs together in this thing called life. I'm grateful for the kids being here and I'm grateful for all the pet I've had in my live. And I was pretty impressed with the pie too.

  5. Glad the boys made it home this year and that you had some enjoyable time before you had to put your fur baby on the path to the Rainbow Bridge.

    PK,
Your family opens gifts just the same way ours does! Glad the whole family made it there on time this year and were not delayed by weather. Losing a urry friend rips your hear out. I have been there. Thinking of you,

  7. Hi PK ... happy to hear you had a wonderful family Christmas ... and all got to be with kitty before she went. We lost 5 of our combined family pets this past year ... never easy.

How great was that that you made your Moms pie for everyone! ... a new tradition was born :))

    1. I'm looking forward to making the pie for Nick's family.
I used to work for a vet and I've been the one to personally put five of our pets down. Somehow it comforts me to do it myself at home.

  8. Sorry for the loss of your kitty, PK. When I was little, I used to put bonnet and booties on my tabby and push her around in my dolls pram. Your mention of Mollie doing a similar thing brought back happy memories.
Glad you had a lovely time with your family.

  9. I just caught up with the last two posts. So glad you've had family around and that they all got to be with your precious kitty before you had to put her down.
I'm especially happy to hear about Nick and the spoon. Good for him! Does he know we're all here, cheering him on?

  10. Hi PK, :) I'm so sorry about your beloved cat! Dang it's hard to lose a four-legged family member! Giant hugs sent your way!❤️

Your Christmas sounded lovely, minus the sadness of losing your buddy. What a neat thing to do- making your mom's pie after all these years! It looks super good! I'm guessing that it tasted it too!

Loved how you go around and opened the gifts, one at a time. We do that here now too. It does take all morning, with a house filled to the brim with young adults, but it is something that I would never change. Isn't it wonderful? I was sad to see them all go. I'm still reorganizing/catching up.

Sounds like a good idea to get your info to Nick, Young Lady! :) Happy New Year to you all! Many hugs and love,

    ❤️Katie xoxo

    1. I think that way of doing gifts helps Christmas last longer and works well with adults. When the next generation begins, we'll see what happens.
