No, no I didn’t get a new sex toy. This toy is something Mollie
has been after me to get for a couple of years. I got an iPhone 5 and I’m
having a blast playing with it. I had a very old phone – a flip phone, it made
calls and I finally figured out how to text on it, but that’s about all.
This phone does the stuff most of you are probably used to (I’m probably the only one in the dark ages). It’s a 16 gig, it has a 8 megapixel camera, it has maps, it has the weather, flashlight, and of course now I can check my email anywhere – something I’m really excited about.

But there is one thing I’m especially excited about. I was a
little worried that I couldn’t type well on the iPhone, and with this one I
don’t have to. All I have to do is talk to it. I hit the little microphone
button and say what ever I want to write in an email, or a text, or something
for the calendar and there it is. It seems to understand a southern accent
perfectly (not that I have one) and so far has typed correctly everything I’ve
said. Now this feature has some possibilities. I could even dictate a story and
email it to myself. Might not be perfect with quotation marks and such, but
that could be easy enough to fix later.
Now I’m sure many of you have had this type of phone for a while
so I’m opened for suggestions on apps you’ve gotten and really liked.
House is nearly clean – Mollie and I are going at it. We have family coming from California, Ohio, Pennsylvania,
Tennessee, and Georgia and lots from here. This is one of my favorite weekends of the
year! I won’t be around here much, but I’ll be back soon.
Not that you have a southern accent....LOL
ReplyDeleteI wish I had my iphone back. Man those toilets are murder on phones!!
Good luck with the last minute preps!
Minelle,
DeleteI got the extended warranty - lets hope I don't need it.
Not the kind of toy I was expecting, but sounds like you are having a lot of fun with it. Now maybe I'm the last person in the dark ages with an iphone. Have an old-fashioned Blackberry.
ReplyDeleteFD
No. FD, you're not the only one in the dark ages.
DeleteNope not at all. I don't even have texting activated.
DeleteFD, Sunny, Meg,
DeleteI was barely out of the dark ages until Mollie just insisted so. I'm keeping it hidden at work, because my boss would be thrilled to know I had it.
Have a great time. Had to laugh about the southern accent comment. Think whatever you want Girl.
ReplyDeleteSunny,
DeleteIf you all really think I have one then I must sound really great to you all!
Hooray for the new toy PK! Sounds like you are having loads of fun with it. Mine isn't quite so sophisticated. Don't have a southern accent LoL
ReplyDeleteHope you have a fantastic weekend with the family!
Hugs,
Roz
Roz,
DeleteIt has been a lot of fun so far. The weekend will be great, the family really gets along well.
PK,
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your new toy and have a good time with the family occurs during the weekend.
Mona Lisa,
DeleteThe weekend may cause me to gain weight, but other than that it should be wonderful.
Have a smart phone but I can't talk to it:) Have a wonderful weekend with family. Are the boys coming?
ReplyDeleteLove,
Ronnie
xx
Ronnie,
DeleteNo sadly the boys can't come. But we'll be seeing them at the wedding in November.
I am still int the middle ages phone wise..but am getting tempted to upgrade! Have a wonderful weekend.
ReplyDeletehugs abby
Abby,
DeleteI really think I'm going to enjoy this one.
Hello PK
ReplyDeleteAngry Birds or candy crush will waste a lot of your time while waiting in doc's office
NOOO candy crush!! Lol all my friends and Tyler are addicted. They go all over FB saying I'm going crazy I cant get to the next level bla bla.. They all try to get me into it and I have refused!!! LOl i'm addicted to enough things lol..
DeleteBob,
DeleteI'm in total agreement with Daisy - I am way too addicted to other things on the Internet to add any more.
Congrats on your new phone, PK. You will love being able to check your emails while away. My Android phone has voice capability too and I love it. One App that comes in handy if you have lunch out with the girls and split the bill. It is called Tip and Split. You put in the amount of the bill, how many people, and what percent you want to tip and it figures it out for you.
ReplyDeleteKaki,
DeleteYes, I've long wanted to have my email available at any time so I'm really excited about that part.
PK,
ReplyDeleteif all your friends are dark age, I must be stone age, my phone has all mod cons, but I only phone.
Have a great week-end.
Love and warm hugs,
Paul.
Paul,
DeleteIf you're happy with your phone then there is no problem. I just don't want my kids to get too far ahead of me.
Your new phone sounds like fun ... enjoy. Voice recognition, eh, I may have to reconsider my stubborn stance on not needing a smart phone. Best wishes for the best reunion ever this weekend!
ReplyDeleteMeg,
DeleteI'm really liking that part a lot!
I have a pet gripe PK - it's mobile phones! Hate them with ferocity! I have a blackberry and it only has about four contacts saved in it - all close family. Although I keep it fully charged, and the rule is that I have to carry it with me at all times, I only use it for emergencies or if Dan has asked me to contact him at a set time.
ReplyDeleteThe reason I hate them is because all you ever see is people with their phones either glued to their mouths, or texting avidly.
Dan took me for a steak two nights ago, and I kid you not, there were only about three tables where people were talking face to face and looking happy. And one of those tables was ours! On every other table at least one person was speaking or texting! Horrible.
So sorry, but although, like you, Dan has one of these all singing all dancing models, I will still reserve the right to hate them, and to continue to prefer speaking, smiling and laughing with my family and friends - face to face, and using the good old-fashioned landline for friends and family who are far far away.
I have, however, succumbed to using Skype on the odd occasion, ie to talk with my friend from across the fields, who is in Calgary for a month visiting her daughter. That's because I like to not only see her, but also see her surroundings ie the big Rockie Mountains in the background!
I am wishing you a wonderful fun packed weekend with all your family. It sounds terrific. I know, of course, that I don't have to advise you not to over imbibe, because, naturally I know you never do!
Many hugs
Ami
Ami,
DeleteI won't argue with you one bit! I hate to look around at a restaurant or such and see four people at a table staring at their phones. My kids know it's one of my pet peeves too so they don't do it - at least around me.
But I still love having the ability to keep up with my friends and check my emails when I want to, and only when it's polite to do so.
Lol welcome to the LIGHT lol. I only use I-Phones at work but I have a droid smart phone for every day and I love it. I can blog on it if I want. Hmm I should see if the voice active works on my blog.
ReplyDeleteYou have family coming from Ohio aww you made my heart melt Ohio is my home but I don't live there anymore but my friends and family are there and well Darn it I sure Do miss them.. Anyway you have fun and see ya when you can!!
Daisy,
DeleteOur family is around Cincinnati and one of my best friends ever lives it the north east corner.
I'm with android not Apple so don't know apps for iphone. I do candy crush and other things like that. I have a golden rule, i only give my number to people I actually want to talk to or text. I get strange looks when i refuse to give out my number. Have fun. Oh i do have feedly which keeps me up to date with blogs.
ReplyDeleteDF,
DeleteI probably give my number out too many places, but Dr. offices, work, sometimes I need to get the messages before I get home.
Have fun with your new toy!!
ReplyDeleteHope you have a fabulous weekend!!!!
Sarah,
DeleteIt's fun now and the weekend and next week will be too.
I was just looking through my APPs to tell you about them and realised that most of them belong to the children!
ReplyDeleteWe share apple sign ins so that we can share APPs without paying for them again. I love the camera and use it more than the phone. Dropbox can be downloaded on phone and computer and any photos you have taken can be transferred and will be there when you open up your comp, I also do this with documents and presentations for work. I also have a lot of music on mine through spotify which I play in the car. Along with maps and calendar and checking blogs etc.
Janey,
DeleteMy son uses dropbox (according to my daughter) so I need to find out more about that.
clearly it was made for Americans. my iphone has NO clue what I'm saying when I speak into it with a local accent.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your fone.
I use "avocado" to keep a couple calender with BIKSS. It's a little primitive, but enough for us to keep each other informed of dates / meetings / out of town trips etc.
Fondles,
DeleteMollie did something to cause me to lose all I had on my calendar and she was horrified. I told her not to worry - I had it all on my paper calendar too. She was shocked that I kept anything so primitive, but she was relieved that i had it.
ahhhh technology *sigh* unfortunately I have absolutely useless...nice looking phone though PK. Hope you enjoy it.
ReplyDeleteHave a great time with your houseguests, see you soon
Hugs
Kiwi xxx
