I have been a wife and mother for over twenty years. Now I am becoming my husband's lover, too.
We owe it all to my fellow bloggers who gave me the courage to come out to my husband as a spanko.
I do feel like this is a New Beginning for us.

My panicky moments

I heard from Bas’ Lisa this morning. A very short email just telling me that she and her children were busy doing all the things that must be done at this time. She said she thanks us all for thinking of them and she will write more later. I’m glad she wrote.

I wanted to tell you one thing that happened that scared the heck out of me. I told you Bas asked to put up his final post and he gave me all the passwords and such to get there. I was honored, and a little nervous. I check a time or two to make sure I could get in, but I never read the post until I put it up, I just glance to see that it was there and signed out.

When the time came I went to his site – and panicked! All the instructions were in Dutch!  His posts were in English but the other words – revert to draft, edit, publish, preview, save, schedule, close and most frightening of all delete, were there but I didn’t know which was which!

I was terrified I was going to some how delete what he had written.  I realize now that I could have turned the instructions into English, I could have put all the words on Google translator, I even have other friends in Holland I could have called on, but panic was my first and strongest response.  I could picture Bas sitting back having a good-natured laugh at my predicament.

As I tried to keep control of my breathing I realized that it was just blogger and had the same buttons as the one I was used to – I switched over to mine, made a quick diagram of what each box said and, well it worked. And again I could see Bas nodding and saying ‘I knew you could do it.’

I had one other scary moment. As we were all learning about his passing I was reading other sites and started to leave a comment. I was just ready to hit the publish button when I saw that I was still sighed in through Bas’ account so the comment would have shown up as if Bas had left it. I’ve left comments before where I was mistakenly signed in as Cassie – but I would have been horrified to make this mistake.  I’m sure Bas, however, would have thought it was funny as heck.

Yes, it is fun to discover that there are actually many other languages that people are using, not just English..

I'm sure that Bas would laugh good and the poor, who would read commentary from Bas from heaven, would probably have a heart attack.

I'm really embarrassed that the rest of the world is so good about learning English and we don't put the stress on learning other languages. I'm so impressed with the abilities of multi-language bloggers. I'm glad I didn't give anyone a heart attack.

  4. You did a wonderful job! I have a Dutch dictionary, but that would've been very little use as I would have panicked too much to remember it. Honestly, I bet he had such a laugh at your expense. Bas's last joke!

  7. Bas's English was so excellent I would forget his natural language being Dutch. I gather he had a gift for languages. Such a remarkable man in many ways. Glad you held your nerves and gave us his last words. Thank you.

  18. HI PK,

Oh goodness, I can just imagine your panic! You did such a wonderful job, thank you.

I am sure Bas would have had a good-natured laugh over this, especially nearly leaving a comment in his name! This is quite fitting considering how you two met.

Glad you have heard from Lisa.

  19. PK,
    somehow missed this post.
When you panic you stop thinking, think and you rarely go wrong.
Bas chose someone he could rely on.
    Love and warm hugs,
    Paul.

  20. Paul,
You didn't miss it I posted at an odd time for me. You're right panic does shut off the brain. But you have to breath deep and keep thinking.

  21. PK, I'm glad you heard from Lisa and let us know. It was truly thoughtful of her to contact you in the midst of this time when I am sure her thoughts are consumed by her family and the changes in their lives and hers. I don't know what Bas had planned, but I am certain he thought of something they should do to ease their grief and celebrate their lives together.

II'm sorry you panicked over the Dutch format. Thank you for plowing through and fulfilling the responsibility of publishing Bas' last post for us. I do wonder, though - I think he was chuckling to think of you seeing Dutch commands when you went to post for him. I'm sure he knew how difficult his passing would be for you. Perhaps that was his way of trying to lighten your mood, at your expense of course! Ya gotta love him!

Now, being signed in as Bas as you were commenting after he passed... Omg! Too funny! At the time, it would have shocked and stunned, but the telling of this almost-mistake is hilarious. I agree, Bas would have loved it and never let you live it down!

Hugs, PK. It's good we continue to talk about this man who was such a kind presence and humorous force in this community. He deserves to be remembered and visited often.

    More hugs, blessings and laughter,

    Irishey

  22. Irishey,
I know Bas did tons of planning and 'tidying' things up before he passed. Being able to do that for his family gave him peace. He was one smart fellow and did everything he could to make things easy for those he loved.

If someone else had left a comment signed in his name I would have been able to see the humor, but if it had been me I would have crawled under the computer!

He was a great fellow and we were so lucky he joined us.
