I have been a wife and mother for over twenty years. Now I am becoming my husband's lover, too.
We owe it all to my fellow bloggers who gave me the courage to come out to my husband as a spanko.
I do feel like this is a New Beginning for us.

Girl's Night Out

* new story at Cassie today.

I had another great weekend.  Not with Nick, he’s gone golfing.  Maybe next weekend we’ll spend it together, but I really enjoyed this one anyway.  Friday night I did something I’ve wanted to do for a long, long time.  It’s one of those things you think about, but often never get around to actually doing.  I had a girl’s night out – but not your typical one.

I asked my mother’s three best friends out to eat.  My mom passed away nine years ago last month.  She was the oldest of her close friends – all we kids were about the same age, but mom had me late.  Mom would be ninety-three now, all these ladies are in their mid-eighties.  They were all school teachers for more than thirty years.  In fact one was my first grade teacher.  One walks slowly with a cane now, one is recovering from a stroke and the other one just lost her husband two months ago.  But as we sat eating and visiting I didn’t think of those things.

We had a ball!  They all still go to my church – in fact seven of my teachers from 1st – 8th grade went to my church and both of my principals in elementary and high school.  I had no choice but to behave myself at school!  We talked about everything!  Sometimes there were a few tears, but they were the good kind.  We talked about Mama some – two of these ladies had come to see mom less than 12 hours before she passed. One had brought her a frosty and they remembered Mollie sitting on her bed feeding it to her.

It was a good evening.  They had all seemed surprised when I’d called and invited them.  But by the end of the night they were all saying that that evening had been exactly what they needed, they just hadn’t known it.  I got three good hugs as I took each of them home.  I’m glad I did it instead of just thinking about it until it was too late.  I care about these  ladies and it was as close as I could come to having dinner with my Mama.

  1. That is a wonderful way to spend a evening, PK. I was born when my parents were well past the age for having children, by Dad was over 50 and my mom was 47. I really envy some of the women my age who have parents in their 70s.
    I miss them terribly.
I am really glad you have ways that you can experience your Mum. I just have my dreams, but they are there all the time :)

  5. That was a beautiful way to enjoy a Friday evening! I feel so blessed that I am able to enjoy my parents still. I feel that we gain so much through their love and vast experiences.
I used to have two Aunts who lived down the street from me when my cousins and I had our first apartments. We had so much fun with them. They were the best of friends but gave each other hell.

  6. *hugs*

I am so glad you could have a special evening and to honor your Mama. I think it is adorable that one was your first-grade teacher!

LOL about all the teachers being at your church and having no choice but to behave yourself. FTM, indeed!

I think it was a wonderful idea and really thoughtful, too. You found a way to connect with others missing your Mama and to find community in missing her. Silly me...I am getting a little teary.

Sending a little wave "up there" to PK's mama and thanking her for raising such a lovely woman.

  7. Yes ... too many folk think of good ideas and don't carry them out. You did well.

  8. This was so heartwarming to read! It was so nice of you to do this! It sounds like all had a good time. And, I bet you felt connected to your Mom in a special way. You get the prize for the day. You've set the bar high, but we can all do more to brighten someone's day, make them feel valued and loved, and reach out to others. Thanks for sharing. Very special.

  10. Lovely thing to do PK. Blessings to you. I think sometimes we tend to forget older people are just older people. They want the same things we do = just not as intense or as often. The older I get the more I see this. Youth really is wasted on the young.

    Enjoy the day.

  13. Lillie,
Boy I miss my folks too. I had Mollie a little late too and it used to make her really mad if someone asked if I were her grandmother. Never really bothered me.

    Paul,
    They were so much fun.

    Hermonie,
It really was a good evening.

    Terps,
I guess it made me feel young.

    Minelle,
You’re lucky. I’ve got a few aunts and uncles left and several cousins in their 80 and I enjoy visiting with them all.

    Ana,
These ladies have been in my life forever – they gave me bridal showers and baby showers, one directed my wedding. It was an honor to get to visit with them.

    Malcolm,
I’ve had some thought like this and lost my chance, I’m glad I didn’t this time.

    SNP,
Thanks, they made me feel pretty special too.

    Ronnie,
    It was fun!!

    Sunnygirl,
Boy, isn’t it! And I love being older, wouldn’t go back for the world.

    Faerie,
I know that they made mine!

    Thanks Patty,
    I think we all will.

PK, your generosity and warmth humble me. I'm glad you enjoyed spending some time with your Mama's friends. She was there, too, in your collective memories that captured pieces of her spirit.
