I have been a wife and mother for over twenty years. Now I am becoming my husband's lover, too.
We owe it all to my fellow bloggers who gave me the courage to come out to my husband as a spanko.
I do feel like this is a New Beginning for us.

Kids and in-laws

It’s been a wonderful weekend, but I’m exhausted. I loved having LJ and Colin here and Mollie came too. We didn’t do anything wild or crazy, but I still feel drained. Nick was off on his golf trip and I missed him though the chaos.

My in-laws also celebrated an anniversary this weekend – 67 years together. Can you imagine? They had a luncheon for them after their church service. I wanted to go, but after sounding out two of my SIL it was easy to tell Colin wouldn’t have been welcomed so we didn’t attend. That’s not completely accurate, the family is very nice to Colin, but if someone at the church had asked who he was they didn’t want LJ answering, “He’s my husband.”

I don’t even get mad at them any more. It is a small little southern Baptist church, I feel they’re wrong in their values, but LJ has said many times that his grandparents – at 89 and 93 get a pass and he holds nothing against them. We’ve never come out and told them LJ is gay. But I’m pretty sure my FIL knows and doesn’t seem to care. He always asks about Colin and how he’s doing. Our immediate family went to have supper with the grandparents one evening while Colin was visiting with his parents and my FIL asked, “Didn’t Colin come with you? Where is he?” So he obviously sees them as a couple.

Oh well, the sisters-in-law prejudices are their problems not mine. Sadly I don’t feel as close to them as I used to, but I’m no longer angry, just a little sad for them. They are passing up time with a fantastic nephew and nephew-in-law.

  3. Happy you enjoyed time with the boys. Bet Mollie loved seeing them.

A shame about your SIL's prejudices and agree with Cat and Roz, their loss entirely. Still a shame though. Your FIL sounds a great guy.

    Love,

  4. I'm in agreement with the comments above, PK! Sooo much their loss!! It's too bad for you all. I do think that it is sweet that LJ gives his grandparents a bye. It can't be easy.

So glad to hear that you all had a wonderful time of it!! Nothing better than just hanging out with your kids. I'm happy for you! Many hugs,

  6. I'm so glad you had a wonderful weekend with your kids. Having had a similarly busy weekend, I know just how you feel. What has happened to all the energy we had in our youth?

We had "the boys" round for lunch yesterday, and the time passed so quickly. They are the BEST ever neighbours. We like them so much. We even got to meet L's mum and dad as they arrived for a week's visit later in the day. I got on with his mum like a house on fire. I sometimes think that it isn't always 'intentional prejudice' that people have, it's just that they don't understand, and they are often nervous.

L and D are married, and are to great together. I looked at them several times and thought about your boys. I hope Nick enjoyed his golf. Did he win?

    Hugs,
    Ami

  7. Hi PK, I don't care how old people are it's just plain rude. I am sure people use being old as an excuse sometimes. Good luck to your boys, glad the weekend was good. How are you doing now?

  8. I think your FIL sounds like a wonderful man. It seems like he doesn't analyze it.... They are two people he loves. I am sorry that your Sil feel they need to judge and or take a stand. Really they can just love and not worry what isn't their business. I don't mean that maliciously. It has nothing to do with them.
I am happy you all had a great weekend!

  9. You have the right attitude. It is totally THEIR loss. They are missing out on the friendship and love God has to offer them by their own prejudice.

67 years is nuts! We all hope to make it that many :)

  10. Thank you everyone! Having this community to come to and vent and complain and sometimes brag to and share the joy of my children means more to me than you'll ever know.
