I thought I’d give a quick health update. I’d say so far so
good. I am on medication for the diabetes once a day. I’ve managed to lose just
under thirteen pounds since I was diagnosed and the blood sugar is doing pretty
well. Usually it’s around 105 to 110. When it does go up it’s around 150. I’m
trying to see what cause it to go up even that high. One evening it was up I
had eaten a little late, I had one small serving of spaghetti (I mean small) and a small piece of garlic
bread. So I’m not sure if it was eating
later – closer to when I checked, or the spaghetti or the bread. Another time
it was up I’d had rice. As I get more information I’m taking it real easy with
bread and rice – I’m not that wild about spaghetti anyway.
I’ve managed to stay completely away from my beloved
SunDrop, but I have missed it. I’ve been drinking more diet drinks than I would
like because it’s one of the few things that helps control my cough. But now
that the cough is finally subsiding I’m trying to stick more to water.
Now for the vegetables – I still don’t like them. That being
said, I am eating more spinach. I like spinach in salads and I’ve found some
low carb chicken dishes with spinach that I really like. Of course as fate
would have it, spinach is one of the veggies Nick does not like. But he does
encourage me to eat all I want.
I have an appointment to talk with a nutritionist early in
March. I have my four lists – things I love, things I like, things I will eat
and things I won’t eat. I hope he/she is someone I can really talk with and
will help me work out some reasonable eating habits using the first three
lists.
I haven’t done much exercising and that is definitely on my ‘to
do soon’ list. The cough, the cold weather, and the fact that I’m a life long
couch potato have played into the reason I’m not getting up and moving. Nick,
were he so inclined, could help me with this I’m sure.
The other day I couldn’t decide if Nick was foolish, brave
or confident as he came into the kitchen as I was cutting up some raw chicken.
With my hands fully occupied he pulled my pants down and began spanking for –
well I don’t know what for, the heck of it I guess. I warned him I had a knife,
but he didn’t seem very worried. When he stopped I asked, “Can you get my
pants back up?” His answer was, “I don’t want them back up” and he wandered
from the kitchen. I general don’t like cooking, but as I finished up with the
chicken and shuffled over to wash my hands I couldn’t help grinning. Now if
cooking brings this on all the time…
Yay!!! I am so happy for you! You sound wonderful! That is a great deal of weight to lose!
ReplyDeleteI used to exercise every day. I'm finding it hard to do myself. Often I am so tired! Ugh jobs that sap energy. Maybe when the weather changes it will help us both.
Nick makes me smile. Leaving you in such a state! If cooking leads to spanking......
Excellent!
I'm looking forward to the time change for sure. Now all I want to do after school is come home, but once I get some more daytime...
DeleteGreat way to cook. I wouldn't have left the kitchen and styed to watch.

He was back and forth!
DeleteGood to hear your health is improving PK. What an amazing amount of weight to loose, well done. Now for Nick, he was game approaching when you had a knife but sounds like it was fun. You'll have to enjoy more cooking if that is how Nick takes care of you.

Not many things could make cooking enjoyable for me - but that did help.
DeleteOh well done PK, that is great news. Good that Nick is getting in on the act too!
ReplyDeletelove Jan,xx
I like feeling better again. I think Nick is enjoying it too.
DeleteSo glad to hear you're doing well PK. Congratulations on losing thirteen pounds, that's just a pound short of a stone on my side of the pond. Keep up the good work, sounds like you're getting some encouragement of the spanky kind from Nick, yay!
ReplyDeleteRosie xx
I've really been surprised at the weight loss since I didn't feel I made huge changes. But it's working and I'm happy about it.
DeleteCongratulations on your weight loss and getting your sugar under control. Love the kitchen story - fodder for a new book?
ReplyDeleteLOL you never know - it could show up somewhere.
DeleteHi PK, Big congratulations on getting things under control. It is not easy to give up a life time of bad habits but sometimes the rewards are worth it.
ReplyDeleteI loved the kitchen story. One of the most anoying thing I do is to sneak up on Mumski when she is cooking and pull down her pants but in summer she confounds me by discarding them before she starts to cook.
Keep up the good work..it is worth it in the end.
Mumski sounds like a smart lady! I'm hoping good habits can replace the old one, but that's still not easy to do.
DeleteCongrats...non all counts. That is a good bi of weight, it is not easy changing life long habits. You are doing great and sounds like Nick is helping in his own way..

I really do miss soft drinks - but not nearly as much as I'd miss time with my family in another twenty years. I really do want to stay healthy.
DeleteThanks for the update on your health, PK and congrats on losing weight and doing so well with your blood sugar!
ReplyDeleteNick is too funny...guess that's one way to help you enjoy cooking more. ;)
Hugs and blessings...Cat
Now what would really be funny if I could catch him sometime with something he couldn't put down and return the favor. That would be fun, painful I'd imagine, but fun!
DeleteWay to go PK! Keep doing what you're doing and a healthy lifestyle will get you strong enough to play back. LOL. I hate cooking too. And salad is BORING. If you want to start exercising a bit, poke the bear in Nick and he can chase you around the kitchen. :) Amy
ReplyDeleteI'm afraid that would give me no exercise in our tiny kitchen! I wish I could get him interested in making exercise a rule.

sorry about deleted comment.
So proud of you, PK. Thirteen pounds is praise-worthy to be sure.
ReplyDeleteAs far as the kitchen goings-on, I say Bon Appetit!

Wow PK! :) I am so very impressed! It sounds like you are really getting an important handle on your health! Good for you, Lady! We love you and we want to keep you nice and healthy! Terrific! Nick must be very pleased too!
ReplyDeleteOK! This had me HOWLING with laughter. Picturing you cutting up chicken, and Nick coming behind you and spanking and keeping your pants down. You with chicken all over your hands- not being able to do anything about it. GO NICK! How did that commercial used to go...? "You asked for it, you got it, Toyota"! Something like that! You got it, spanky business! I'm so happy for you on all accounts! Many hugs,
<3 Katie
So glad you are doing so well. That is wonderful news. And, I love your kitchen story. Glad Nick found a way to make cooking interesting for you. :-) Hugs
