I have been a wife and mother for over twenty years. Now I am becoming my husband's lover, too.
We owe it all to my fellow bloggers who gave me the courage to come out to my husband as a spanko.
I do feel like this is a New Beginning for us.

Writing Conference

I tried a writing conference this weekend. It probably was not the best time to go, I came down with a horrible cold late Thursday. I really didn’t feel like driving two hours to my friend’s home and then another hour or so the next morning to the conference, but I’d promised.

The speaker was pretty good, I guess. The first thing she asked was for us to go around the room and tell what we wrote, what genre.  I’m in a room full of strangers, I know only one person and this woman wants me to tell everyone I write spanking stories. Hmm…

I could have said adult romantic comedy. But what the hell, I told them I wrote domestic discipline stories about an older couple. There were grins and a smatter of laughter, but no one was unkind. I listened as some of them talked about writing about strong women and I realized that they had no idea how strong the women we write about are. I found myself wanting to debate them. They seemed to have no trouble accepting the idea of underwater worlds with love triangles, or haunted castles, or paranormal small town romances – but the idea that a strong woman could choose to give to submission to the man she loves and trust was unrealistic.

There was nothing wrong with the conference, I just felt a little left out. I would love to go to a conference for DD writers and I may look into one after I retire, but I didn’t enjoy the experience enough to give up another weekend right now.

  1. Awww PK...sorry you weren't feeling well and didn't enjoy the conference as much as you'd hoped. I hope you are able to attend a DD writers conference without having to wait for retirement. Hope you are feeling better.

    1. I'm afraid the high point this weekend was getting home to my recliner and napping!

  3. Aw PK, what a shame that the conference didn't go as well as you had hoped. I think maybe it would be better if you went to one with more dd writers in it. Another thing to look forward to after retirement :)

    1. I'm not sure any writing conference would be for me, but dd is what I write and I might like to meet with other who do.

  5. At least you were with a friend who understood you. Had to smile when you told us what fantasy worlds the other writers created. Made me wonder what Cassie would say in that situation!

Have you ever been to a conference with other DD writers?

Colds suck. Everyone expects you to say, "It's just a cold." Yet, you feel so lousy. Even if you take a day off to rest, it doesn't go away until it is good and ready! Take care of yourself, PK.

    1. My friend loves me, but that doesn't mean she understands what I write. I'd say she tolerates it without understanding. This was my only conference so far.

I'm still fighting the cold, but I'm going to win.

  6. That stinks! Getting a cold prior to the weekend, and feeling left out! It seems as though books with DD or a bit of spanking kink are doing pretty well. I wonder who is buying them! ;-)
When you retire there will plenty of time for conferences!

    1. The friend I went with is a great writer, better than me, but I usually out sell her. So you're right, someone likes spanking books.

  7. I wondered how that went. You know, just maybe some of them might look you up and learn something.

    Hope your cold is better.

    1. I did have one woman ask about what I wrote and I gave her my card - who knows.

  9. I hope you're feeling better!! That's too bad about the conference. I can see an eventual DD writing conference though....however, I wonder how much trouble those writers would get in during the course of that weekend conference LOLOL
