I have been a wife and mother for over twenty years. Now I am becoming my husband's lover, too.
We owe it all to my fellow bloggers who gave me the courage to come out to my husband as a spanko.
I do feel like this is a New Beginning for us.

The Hike

As fine as our week was I do have to report that Nick tried to kill me and he damn near succeeded. He suggested we walk to a falls which was on our way home. I was pretty leery. I’m not a hiker by nature and I’m not in the best shape. But he said it was only a mile and we should try it. (This falls into the ‘try it, you’ll like it’ category.)

I wasn’t wild about the idea, but even I can walk a mile so why not give it a try I thought. Or rather didn’t think.  We had stopped by a craft store before the falls and I decided to buy a walking stick, like a staff.  I asked Nick what he thought and his first comment was a whispered, “I think that would bruise.”

After I made sure he knew the only thing I wanted it used for we headed to the falls. And like the fool I now know I am I followed my thin, agile husband down the path– and into hell. It wasn’t steep in the way of having to climb or anything, but we were definitely going down hill. The staff was a true lifesaver as some of the gravel was loose and it kept me from falling several times. It was when we came to the first set of stairs that I began to have serious misgivings. I don’t like regular stairs and as you can see these weren’t the best.

The path itself was well worn, but as you can see here there were a few toe catchers – and coming out I wasn’t lifting my feet well.

I also have a fear of small bridges, yeah – this was one of them.

We finally arrived at the falls. It took us about an hour. Pretty, sure, but certainly not worth the walk – that’s my body you see stretched out on the bridge bench. It was about this time as I was trying to remain conscience that it occurred to me we were going to have to walk out again.

Shit. We started. We hadn’t brought any water of course, we hadn’t thought that far ahead. But I had little choice. I had to get out and the only way out was to walk. So I did. But it was so steep going back up I could only do about twenty steps at a time and then I had to rest. My breathing sounded like a freight train.  We were about half way back when I couldn’t go any farther. We came to a small narrow bench. I needed to lie down but it was too small. To hell with it – I just lay down in the dirt. I had to rest. I think that was when Nick got a little worried – he wasn’t the only one.

Slowly, but surely we did make it out. Getting back to the car, to water was like heaven itself and after drinking some I pretty much passed out and don’t remember anything else for a while.

You know the rest of the story – the rest of the week was great. Last Saturday we went out with friends and we told them the story of the hike. Our friend turned to Nick and said, “You mean you finally got her down by that pretty waterfall and you didn’t even get lucky?”

“Damn right he got lucky,” I told them. “I didn’t beat him to death with the walking stick!”

We did it, walked to the falls and made it back – but it’s the last hike I take where I can’t see the finish line from where I start!

  1. Congratulations PK for not killing Nick! Since I've had some challenging expenses lately, I don't have much money to contribute to a bail fund.

I agree with you, the falls are pretty but not worth a death march!

I have to say, you're a lot nicer than me...I would have laid down and said...I'm staying right here until you at least fetch some water for me...oh and if you find a wheelbarrow, bring it along and you can roll me out!

    Hugs and blessings...Cat

  3. I'm happy you didn't beat Nick:) It does look like a lovely place to visit but sounded like you had to walk more than a mile to reach it.

  4. Hi PK, I'm glad you didn't beat Nick too. Bet he felt awful. It does look lovely, but a tough walk, and definitely more than a mile!

  6. This looks like a hike I once took at my sister's place in West Virginia. It is a lot harder when it goes up and down. Just the tree roots would have been discouraging. Sis says the best hike is when there is a nice restaurant at the end.
PK, this whole day sounds like an episode of Survivor. You did it, and no one threw you off the island!

    1. Nick and friends used to say no one would walk into the woods any farther than you can carry a fully loaded cooler. That's my plan from now on.

I love those kind of hikes. And the waterfall does look pretty. It was however stupid not to take any water (why didn't you just take some from the waterfall? Too far away?) While you should be very proud of yourself that you did make it (but then what choice did you have) it seems a little alarming that it was so difficult. Have you thought about doing some fitness?

    1. You're right I made it out because I had no choice. I know I'm terribly out of shape. And I sure need to work on it harder than I am. But there will be no more hikes of that nature any time soon.

  8. It looks like a wonderful walk, PK and well done you! The falls are so beautiful, and I would've really enjoyed getting to them and back. I love walking like that. Did you have proper shoes on? I should probably have joined you for a quick lie down, though!

Maybe a little more walking and climbing steps is in order? LOL!

    Many hugs

  9. He sure did get lucky! Ty has tried to kill me that way a couple of times. The worst was in the mountains in Santa Cruz where the trails were all sand. I used to jog along the beach a million years ago but now a days, hiking in it just about did me in. I did get even though....

  10. Oh my goodness! I think I would have told Nick we are camping because I am not moving! Although he has been spank happy and there were plenty of natures implements around you.... Hmmmm you probably made the best choice!
    Glad you made it!!

  11. Shame on Nick for not knowing to never undertake a hike without at least a bottle of water. In case you don't know, in order to have water fall, it has to be a high place, that should have been the first clue.

Glad you both made it back down and that you didn't do Nick any bodily harm with or without the cane. lol

Take my wife on a romantic walk through the forest to a beautiful, secluded waterfall... and all I get is grief!

    PK,
Water is essential when hiking. Now I prefer thinking about hiking from the chaise lounge unless it is a hike on the beach.

  14. While beautiful, it sounds as though it was an adventure you might have preferred to pass on...next time Nick suggests a "little one mile" hike...you will know better. :-) Glad you made it back to tell the story. Hugs
