I have been a wife and mother for over twenty years. Now I am becoming my husband's lover, too.
We owe it all to my fellow bloggers who gave me the courage to come out to my husband as a spanko.
I do feel like this is a New Beginning for us.

Trying to start a new trend

I’m going to a wedding soon. I like going to wedding. I look forward to seeing the bride and her family. I’ll see other old friends there. I’m anticipating good food, good drinks and good fellowship. But there are problems. I want to honor this young couple and their families and that means dressing appropriately. Getting down to the ugly truth, it means wearing a dress.

I hate and despise wearing dresses. I have a nice dress or two. I don’t look bad in them, but I feel as comfortable as the average man would in a dress. It’s utterly foreign to me. Basically the only reason I’m wearing the dress is pure peer pressure, (that’s what the other girls will be wearing.) Grrr….

But, fine, I’ll wear a dress. That not even the trend I’m trying to change. I’ll put on the uncomfortable bra, I’ll stuff myself into a pair of spanx and I’ll be presentable. Except, except … why in the hell to I have to wear shoes?

I personally think all shoes should be outlawed unless you have to go out and it’s cold. The only exceptions should be for tennis shoes or sandals – the soft flip-flop kind. My problem is that neither of these is suitable for wedding attire.

When you wear pants you can get away with nearly any type shoe. But with a darn dress that doesn’t work. I can’t wear shoes without socks or hose. I don’t own a pair of hose at the moment and I’m guessing the socks wouldn’t add to the overall classy look I’m going for. And then there are the shoes themselves. I’m short, I’d love to wear heels – they make your legs look longer and sexy.

But the last time I wore a pair of beautiful, sexy stilettos was over thirty-five years ago. I could get a new pair, but I don’t think falling down and breaking my neck at the wedding will add to the classy feel either.

I went shoe shopping this past weekend – I found nothing. I know the size I wear in a comfortable, firmly ties tennis shoe. But in a dress shoe? It’s not even close to the same. I’ll be looking again later this week.

Do you think there’s a chance I could get Nick to switch outfits with me? I’ll get a nice man’s suit. I’ll deal with wearing a tie and Nick could wear the bra, the panty hose, the spanx, the dress and the stilettos. I know he’s be as comfortable in them as I would be.

I’m just griping for effect. I really am looking forward to the wedding – and getting to see everyone. Nick and I are going to make a whole festive weekend of it. And I promise to look appropriate. But I am having a pedicure just before we go – just in case I decide to show up barefoot, that’s the new trend I’m going for.

  1. I hear you PK ... my high heels and I, once upon a time, had a torrid love affair. Then my feet got between us and now I can only wear 'proper' footwear ... as almost always ugly footwear. They do nothing for a dress. However, last summer I managed to find a couple of pairs of very nice low sandals - comfortable and attractive. They don't give my legs the lift that heels used to but they still work with a dress. I hope you also find something that works for you.

... and regardless of what you have on your feet (or not :>)) ... have a wonderful time at the wedding ... nj ... xx

    1. I know I'll have a ball at the wedding! I just hope some of the people there are looking at the bride and not my feet!

  2. Hi PK, I do like dressing up for occasions and we have recently had two family weddings in short succession. However, I don't like the stress involved in choosing and putting the outfit together.

I'm totally with you on dress shoes. My feet and heels don't get on now days.

Enjoy the wedding and weekend. Hope you have a wonderful time :)

    Hugs

Dressing up is rare for me, but the last wedding I went dress shopping. Found a flowing dress, got the shoes, and everything. My husband was surprised, said I look outstanding. At the wedding I got compliments and the best one when my husband put his hand on my bottom and with a couple of taps, said I'm ready already. Should buy more dresses.

    1. Sounds to me like you need to buy more dresses - you will enjoy the dresses and might even get yourself in trouble for over spending. I win/win situation.

  4. LMAO - I know just how you feel. My legs aren't my finest feature and I love covering them up with pants. I think classy pants are fine for a wedding - I'd do it. But then...
If you're going for a new trend, why not go all the way - do the pants, no spanx. If you get a pair of fancy slacks that are full and long enough you could even go barefoot and no one would notice. Except it might be cold depending on where the wedding takes place. Oh well, that's my take on things.

    1. I'll be going out looking this week. Probably for pants - I even wore pants to LJ's wedding.

  5. I think the important thing is that you attend in support of your good friends, regardless of what you wear they want you there.
I would try to find something that does make you feel comfortable. Maybe dress pants and a pretty blouse or jacket of sorts. These occasions no longer require a dress to look dressy and now there are more options than ever! Good luck putting it together. :)

    1. That's all true and I have reached the age where I know no one is worrying about what I'm wearing - they're too busy worrying about what they are wearing.

  6. I hate dresses as well and as for high heels, no way can I wear them now. I think I'd fall over. You could wear a nice trouser suit with a pretty blouse under the jacket and a pair of sandals.

  7. Hi PK, :) You know, I'm thinking the same as the others. There are many ways to dress up, without having to wear a dress. However, I think that you look beautiful in one! I've seen the pics!

Did you know that spanx has panties that suck in your gut, and your buns, and leave the rest alone??? LOL! I found them. No weird leg things, no horrible squishing into them. Just a little compression where you need it most. Score!!! LOL!

As for shoes, I hear you! There are many options for comfort these days. A pretty pair of flats is a good option. Perhaps one with a small, sturdy wedge or something like that. Some pretty sandal-like shoes. I'm on a search today, as a matter of fact. Wish me luck. Too bad we can't shop together! :)

I so agree with Laurel, it is you that your host/hostess want there, not what you wear! Not for support, but in celebration of a marriage and love. That is a special thing! I have a feeling that things will work out beautifully! And you, my friend, will look beautiful too! Many hugs,

    ❤️Katie xoxo

    1. I hope you're right. Everyone wants to look nice around their friends. My friends that will be there are always classy looking.

Thinking about the panties vs spanks - it could work but I'm picturing a major muffin top. LOL!

  8. You have some good ideas. I just think that society isn't ready for the new trend. I wear a dress about once a week and the rest of the time it seems like I am in casual clothes and barefoot. I hate wearing shoes. I love getting pedicures! I hope that you have a great time at the wedding. Kick off your shoes and dance the night away.

  9. PK,
I have zero fashion advice. But, I do want you to have a blast with all your special friends! I am sure you will look beautiful and that your accent with wow everybody, too! :) Hugs! Have fun! Windy

    1. I'm going to try to look beautiful! But there is no accent, I have never had an accent. It's just that yankees (and some other) have weird hearing.

  10. LOL He'd be just as comfortable as you would be. lol Hopefully you don't end up doing what I did for my wedding. I couldn't find a pair of shoes, and then a few days before my wedding I BROKE my foot. NO LIE. The hospital thought it was a sprain, but if I'd bought shoes, I never would have fit into them, the foot was so swollen. I walked down the aisle in these large black clunky shoes that a friend with a larger foot loaned me, we figured no one would see under my poofy dress. Except I lifted it during the service in front of EVERYONE to go down the stage steps to sign the license. Yep, go me. lol The photographer then said she needed photos of the shoes! LOL lol We got a call after the wedding saying the radiologist looked over the xray after the doctor did, and said it was indeed broken. Augh. I highly suggest not taking that approach to getting out of dress shoes. LOL I hope you find something you like that will be comfortable that day. ;) Not that the bra and spanx will help with that. :P

    1. Although it worked for you I am going to try my best to NOT take that route! My sister was exactly the same hight as her husband and so as to not tower over him in heels at the wedding she chose to wear white, silk, flat ballet sandals. Although hight was an issue I did the same thing. My feet were very comfortable at my wedding!

  12. PK, well I think the girls are right, pant suit(Diane Keating all the way). If not, sling back pumps or a blingy sandal! Oooh, what about (if the dress is long enough) a flat dressy boot?

I think EsMay and I are actually related. I broke my ankle a month before my wedding (that was the 5th time). I managed the 2 inch heels for the walk up and down the aisle and then moved to slippers. Heels never happen around here.

Weddings are lovely! Have fun with your friends!

    1. You see men now wearing tennis shoes with suits - wonder if I could fine some beautiful silver snickers as one friend suggested?

I'm truly going to try to avoid breaking anything - you be careful, too!

  13. My friends daughter (the bride) and her bridesmaids all wore sequined tennis shoes.

  14. We're old enough to get away with anything now, sad to say. Really, does anyone care what is on our feet? I wear pretty wedged sandals in the summer and knee-high boots all winter. They look fine with dresses and pants. I have tennis shoes for casual dress or flats if the sandals won't do. Just smile pretty and I don't think anyone will look at your feet. (But a pedicure is a great idea!)

  15. You will look beautiful no matter what you wear. I completely understand about the shoes. When it comes to shoes, I am all about comfort...sometimes hard to find in a dress shoe when you have big feet like I do. :-) hugs

    1. It's not very easy for a narrow foot either. What's wrong with being barefoot?

  16. Whatever you pick, PK, I am sure you will look pretty. I always seem to remember someone's smile way more than their outfit.

Besides people who hate shoes leave more of them for those of us who love shoes. Lately my fanciest accessory is an ice pack.

Just have fun and be yourself, my friend. That's why people love you!

I"m soooo late getting to all of these posts -- but I LOVE this PK! You go girl! I too despise dresses. And heels? Nooooo thank you! You know, if you wear a long enough dress, no one would have a clue. :)
