I have been a wife and mother for over twenty years. Now I am becoming my husband's lover, too.
We owe it all to my fellow bloggers who gave me the courage to come out to my husband as a spanko.
I do feel like this is a New Beginning for us.

Movie reviews and reenactments

*There is a great post at Katherine Deane's today highlighting books where the heroine is over 40 - check it out!

Originally I hadn’t planned on seeing 50 Shades. I just didn’t believe that they would show what the book was truly about. But I’d heard some okay reviews and I decided to see for myself. Saturday afternoon Nick and I went to the movies.

I liked it! Speaking as a spanko and some who enjoyed the books, I thought they did a really good job. I don’t know if they followed the book exactly, I read it fast and several years ago. But I think they told a good story and told it well. As a spanko I give it a two thumbs up.

I thought Dakota Johnson did a good job. She was well cast and fit what I’d had in my head as I read the book.  Jamie Dornan did okay, nothing really wrong with him, it’s just that he wasn’t what I had in my head as I read.

It had a few stray lines to made a spanko smile – “If you were mine, you wouldn’t sit for a week”, “Roll your eye’s at me again and you’ll go over my knee.” It soothes the soul if you’re one of us.

Here the main thing though, if you’re a spanko you’re probably going to enjoy the movie and I’ll home you’ll to defend it. I’ll be defending it from all the vanillas calling it demeaning, abusive and pornographic. If you find yourself needing to defend the movie you might point this out to the critics. Everything in the move – everything – was consensual.  She was given a contract, and allowed to change or mark out anything she was not happy with. She not only had a caution and a safe word, he reminded her of them before things began.  And even what she wasn’t happy with, she had specifically asked for.

The movie ended the same way the first book ended and I said the same thing at the end of the movie as I said at the end of the book – what a wuss!  But then I tried to cut her a little slack since she was not one of us, but still!

After the movie we went to dinner with some friends and once home Nick was in the mood to do a little scene reenacting, out came the cuffs, a blindfold and other interesting things. After some wonderful playtime, Nick commented, “You called her a wuss at the end of the movie. I think we need to reenact that scene.” And he did! With his belt – did I change my mind? Heck, no! She was a wuss!

  1. Hi PK,
I liked the movie too. I put my thoughts here (Hope that is OK)
    http://submanhub.blogspot.com.au/2015/02/50-shades-spoiler-alert.html

Wrt to the end where she gets him to cane her and then freaks out. I can totally understand that. During the movie and after I was absolutely wishing I was her. Lying across the couch thing. In a sub mindset being caned by the one I love. For me in a sub mind set it was the thing of dreams. BUT if you are not in the sub mindset then in ones mind its an assault on you.

Early in my married life, In response to my pestering, my wife said that I could spank her. For me a huge turn on. She lay across me. The smacks had some noise to them but were lighter than me clapping my hands enthusiastically at a concert. After only two or three smacks she jumped up and faced me and shouted that I never ever do that to her again. Things were cold and fragile between us for quite some time.

My wife and I spoke about that scene in the movie and she said she understood both the girl asking him to do it and her seeing it through and her reaction at the end. Note when she is lying there, her head on its side. She barely manages to say the count. She is crying because with each stroke, her love is dying as she is distancing herself from the man she loves.

I have not read the books but I dream of a sequel where he manages to move to give her what she wants. That is love and romance. She wanted him to sleep in her bed and to go out to dinner and movies and concerts and things. I suspect that in return she would be willing to be beaten by him. To demonstrate submission and to give him what he desires.

    Those are my thoughts anyway.

    1. You are right, that's why I gave her a break - she wasn't one of us and she did the best she could. Although he strapped her, not the cane. I know because I love the strap and fear the cane. In fact in the book the cane was one of her hard limits and he removed them from the red room. I think you will like the sequel and the one after. You should go ahead and read the last two books.

    1. We did have fun. I'm really glad I saw it because it really ticks me off to hear the people who say it's abuse and that the movie should be boycotted with out ever having ever seen the movie or read the book.

Your comment about Ana being a wus in the end scene cracked me up. I think it's awesome Nick decided to reenact the scene :)

  10. Lucky you, we never reenacted anything from the movie. I liked the movie. Did not like the Christian Grey character,. Just wasn't what I pictured him to look like. I did like the ending though, I liked that she walked away when she didn't like something. She was brave enough to do so and not so in love with him that she couldn't think her own thoughts. But I also know how the story ends. Loved Anastasia, Dakota Johnson was great

    1. We agree completely on the actors. He just didn't quite do it for me. But she was great. What finally pushed her over the edge seemed so short, if not mild. But that's coming from my spanko background.

  11. What a perfect touch that Nick decided to reenact a scene. And you are not a wuss even though he did turn him down recently. I have a hunch that won't happen again. Haven't seen the movie but one of the guys mentioned he and his wife had gone to see it. He seemed disappointed the sex wasn't more than what he sees on TV. His wife said he wouldn't like it because it was more of a chick flick. And have you heard of the Submission of Emma. It is playing on cable TV.

    1. I haven't heard of that - is it any good. I do kinda think of this as a chick flick. We saw several couple, mostly over 40 and small groups of women. No small groups of men. I think this would be something you and your girl would enjoy together.

I enjoyed the movie, but considering TV these days has non-romantic rough sex with sound, seeing romantic love scenes without sound is definitely a let down considering all the hype.

Despite the low ratings it's been receiving, I really enjoyed it as well! I agree 100% with you about the people who call it abuse. It's not. The movie ends with her telling him "no" and him backing off, for pete's sake!

I was not expecting to like Jamie Dornan but ended up liking him quite a bit. After the movie I joked that if an attractive man wanted to spank me 6 times in exchange for an Audi, new clothes, and all the rest I wouldn't complain! Of course maybe that's because I am a spanko... :)
