I have been a wife and mother for over twenty years. Now I am becoming my husband's lover, too.
We owe it all to my fellow bloggers who gave me the courage to come out to my husband as a spanko.
I do feel like this is a New Beginning for us.

Retirement: Hopes and fears

If you’ve read here more than once you know that I’m looking forward to retirement. It’s truly right around the corner and I do have many things I hope will be included in my retired life. I also have some very legitimate fears.

First some of my hopes –

Writing

Cleaning/organizing

Exercising / getting more fit

Traveling with Nick

Visiting with friends, especially blogging friends

Reading

and ... you know

But there is fear. Big fear. Very realistic fear. Whether this fear will come about is completely up to me – and that terrifies me!

I don't what this to be me

Nick sometimes makes this suggestion

This does seem reasonable...

Yep, this is a big fear

  1. Hi PK, congratulations on retirement being around the corner. An exciting time which offers lots of opportunities.

Great pics and I just love your list of hopes. Your fear won't be realised...because you don't want it to be realised :)

    1. Thanks Roz, I'm excited, but I know how unmotivated I can sometimes get.

  2. I'm sure your hopes will come to fruition but you'd have to be a saint not to get a bit lazy sometimes. I don't think saints are much fun!

  3. PK, I am very excited for you. This is a huge life step. Think of all the time for writing and smile, my friend. You have earned it.

Have you talked to Nick about these fears? Perhaps, he could make some suggestions and help to keep you productive. It helps to have a coach when you know self discipline is lacking.

    1. Nick would make good suggestions - but no follow through and that is harder on me than no suggestions at all.

  4. As someone who has been in your shoes....At first those fears might be more the norm..heck who has not dreamed of staying in bed til you felt like getting up, of binging on your favorite tv shoes, of having a do-nothing day or 2 or a couple weeks.
But eventually, you realize life is more than that, you might join a book club, set up a breakfast or lunch meet or dinner meeting every month with friends, are work on all those hopes.
I loved teaching, but as you know too well it consumes you....not you get to just be you and follow whatever 'itch' you have...

    1. I will have to make a conscience effort to get out some - I tend to be a hermit. But I do have some things in mind.

  5. Hi PK! :) It is so wonderful that you are in a countdown now to retirement! You will have so much fun having time to write, as you want to. You got some good suggestions above, as to how to fill some time in other ways.

I too think that you will be just fine. Just the fact that you know what you don't want, the realization of the same, makes me think that you will not have a problem with all of that. But I agree- take it to Nick. It always feel good to talk through worries with the ones that we love. He may find some very creative ways to help you out, should you start to go astray there. :)

Exciting times ahead for you. I know that you will find your way! More Cassie for us all too. She's a hoot! Many hugs,

    <3 Katie

    1. Nick loves me truly, but consistence with TTWD is not his strong suit. But hopefully identifying my fear will help me avoid them.

  6. I think it's wonderful that you are about to retire and don't worry your fears wont be realised because you don't want them to. Keep active. Think you will have more time to travel to those places you and Nick have always wanted to visit, more time to write, time to take those walks and going to the gym wont seem such a burden.

Every day will be a new day so yes laze a bit have fun but mostly enjoy your retirement.

    Love,

    PK,
I like your goal about more travel time with blogging friends! I am still very restless with not working. It is not easy to go from a rewarding to career to retirement. We are here to help and I think a retirement coach is an excellent idea.

  9. I feel like I am living your fear sometimes as a way to avoid the inevitable stress that comes with life...but the truth is that being lazy once and a while is nice but eventually you will want to go and chase your dreams whatever those are...whether reading or writing or visiting friends or vacationing or having fun...no doubt you will find a balance...enjoy your retirement! 1. I'm with you - there is no problem with occasional laziness. I just can't let it overwhelm me. One vanilla friend wrote 14 book during her first year of retirement. That inspires me.

  10. Hi PK, yes those are all the fears facing everyone as they contemplate retirement. Fortunately you are choosing when to retire and not having it forced upon you by ill health. This translates as..you have thought about all the benefits just around the corner and had time to plan.
There is another way to look at the fears. You will become more active and will be less tempted by the bad eating routines. You will have the chance to write and then reach out to all your blogging friends. You will have time to become more active in your local community...and lots more.
It is all out there just waiting for you to grab it with two hands and embrace everything you can.

  12. Hey PK...I do like your list of hopes. As far as your fears go...they are reasonable but since you have already identified them, think you will be on guard against them. I do have faith in you.

  13. I recently listened to a speaker and he said we have all the power inside us to be whomever we wish. He explained it more scientifically comparing it to atoms.... hmmm wasn't listening to that part! :)
I know you will find your stride. Allow yourself a few lazy days, but then fill your time.... your's and Nick's way!

  14. PK I'm sure once you've retired things will seem different. You have a new perspective on life and make the most of each day. After Bear retired and we moved our life style changed so much. We both lost heaps of weight and are more active. Bear is healthier.
Stay positive everything will be great. You'll wonder how you ever had time to fit work into your schedule before too long.

  15. How are you doing with this now? I think that not having the pressure of work can actually make you more enthusiastic about doing other things. And some of the eating you did was probably a result of your unhappiness with parts of the job. Without that on your back, you don't look for comfort in food so much. I don't know about you, but I hardly ever ate because I was hungry. I ate junk because it made me (temporarily) feel good. I still do sometimes, but not as much as I used to.
