How was your Christmas? I think a great New Year’s resolution is for everyone to start bogging and tell us all about your holiday. Unfortunately, that probably won’t happen. But should you want to try I’ll be happy to help you get started.
Many of you have asked if the renovations got finished by Christmas as I was hoping. The answer is a decisive – sorta. No, it’s not finished, not by a long shot. But the feature wall is 99% done and I think it’s beautiful.
I first saw the house we live in about thirty-eight years ago when Nick and I began dating. He had bought it a few years before. When I first saw it, this was the feature wall in the living room. I didn’t like it. I haven’t liked it for thirty-eight years.
There were a few things on the mantle, predominate was a cross-stitching of his college mascot – done and given to him by a former girl-friend. That came down when we married two years later. Over the years we’ve decorated the mantle with many thing, an antique clock for one and then in the past few years there were mostly just family pictures. I began a campaign to redo this wall in some way about thirty years ago. It wasn’t high on Nick’s ‘to do’ list. But over the decades I wore him down and below you can see what it looks like now. Drum roll please…
I’m so pleased with the way it turned out. I’m not sure what all I’ll put on the shelves. I just wanted something up for now. My Cassie book first – they’re the reason I wanted shelves! But I’ll have plenty of time to play with different looks. So this is nearly finished – you’ll notice one piece of crown molding missing at the top. The stonework was only completed on December 23. But it will be put up Monday, before the boys get home.
Still to go will be a new window treatment and hardwood floors. I’ll give you another look then.
Oh wow, it looks amazing PK! Thank you for sharing with us. Glad it has turned out how you wanted and look forward to seeing more pics.
